New museum focuses on experience which engages the visitor on a thermoceptive level - to use climatic variations as a spatial tool and to transform the entire building into a sustainable climate machine. The display and collection of contemporary art demands a specific temperature and humidity (20°C and 50% Humidity). However, thermal comfort is not simply a function of these criteria. A comfortable climate for visitors is a combination of humidity, temperature, light, and air movement. Thermal comfort for people can vary according to the interaction of temperature, humidity and air flow (turbulence) in a space. This proposal takes advantage of the range of temperature and humidity levels which are comfortable for visitors in order to: 1. create a climate buffer or insulation zone around the exhibition spaces. 2. make better use of the preconditioned air flowing out of the galleries by recycling it through the non-exhibition spaces and back to the atrium water cascade.
